VMAP

Interoperable virtual material models and a seamless transfer of material and engineering data history in a CAE workflow enables industry users to develop and produce better products in a shorter time using more efficient manufacturing processes.
Interface standards will help CAE software developers and vendors to create new virtual material models and simulation processes that can be easily integrated into holistic design, simulation and optimisation workflows.
In Europe’s growing and future manufacturing market where materials technology is a key factor, especially in the rapidly emerging market of additive manufacturing for metal and plastics, an open software interface standard for virtual material modelling will have significant benefits.

• VMAP is a vendor-neutral standard for CAE data storage
• VMAP Standard Specifications published on the VMAP website
• All project partner softwares support VMAP Standard format
• VMAP Standard I/O Library implemented for 7 codes external to the project
• VMAP Standard import and export wrappers developed for Abaqus & ANSYS
• Engineering workflows completed using VMAP Standard – blow moulding, composites, additive manufacturing etc.

The project is organised via the ITEA programme and funded by national regional agencies and companies over the period from October 2017 to September 2020. The total budget is about 16M€.

ITEA is the EUREKA Cluster programme supporting innovative, industry-driven, pre-competitive R&D projects in the area of Software-intensive Systems & Services (SiSS). ITEA stimulates projects in an open community of large industry, SMEs, universities, research institutes and user organisations.
As ITEA is a EUREKA Cluster, the community is founded in Europe based on the EUREKA principles and is open to participants worldwide.

The Austrian part of the joint project is funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG). (number: Projekt 864080 – EUREKA ITEA 3 2017 VMAP Moulding).

The Belgian part of the joint project is funded by the companies partaking.

The Canadian part of the joint project is funded by the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP).

The German part of the joint project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with 3.5 million euros via the ITEA 3 cluster of the European research initiative EUREKA. The Netherlands part of the joint project is funded by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency
